When most kids start out programming, they are thinking to themselves, “I’m gonna make games!” Then they go major in CS and end up programming some database somewhere (there are worse jobs, like sewer diving). Well, we get our revenge at the dead of night while normal people sleep. Hacking games (for the Wii and other platforms) is just too much fun to be left by the wayside, even if you aren’t getting payed to do it. This page is where we plan to share some fun little games we make.
So let’s start out with a remake of an ancient DOS game that was really cool but you probably never played. It’s a fun little game called…
Planets!
Two players shoot it out to see who’s boss at slinging torpedos around massive planets. Simple gameplay, no AI, but fun as heck. Yes, heck. The intense, meticulously-rendered graphics will blow your socks off!
Note: Planets! was actually created by Random and released as open source on RubyForge BEFORE this slightly prettier version (I’m not sure if they developed the idea independently or not).
New Fun Little Game: Slingshot
If you like the basic idea of Planets! and have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you really need to check out Slingshot created by a good friend of ours over at indie game studio Giraffe Lab. It’s a fun little game you can play on your own or with friends.
Update: We just learned that another game already exists with the same name (completely by accident - the game was previously unknown). That being said, this is easily the best implementation of the idea.
